Cure at UGA is an amazing organization that was started in the Fall of 2010 by Katie Rae Spell and Katherine Adams. Through a series of dinners and coffee dates, these two girls decided to bring something absolutely incredible to The University of Georgia - Cure International. Cure International, our (VERY) big brother, is an organization that provides monetary and spiritual support to children and families in third world countries. These kids have been outcasted from their communities due to physical disabilities and defects, and are seen as useless to society. Often times, their families also feel the social burden of their children's unwarranted condition, as they too are shunned from their community. Cure International provides hope to these families by building hospitals all around the world to CURE the kids. People like you have the ability to change a whole families life with donations to Cure International. The cost of each surgery is $1,000, so for every $1,000 raised, another child is CURED.
CURE at UGA has provided a lot of relief in the past three years to the CURE International hospital in Mbale, Uganda, which treats children with hydrocephalus, neural tube defects, spina bifida, epilepsy and brain tumors. Aside from these surgeries, another incredible facet of CURE International's mission is in stimulating the economy in the cities where hospitals are built. Doctors from the US are brought in, and begin to teach local doctors how to perform the surgeries needed most in their area. Within a few years, the hospitals are completely run by locals, providing jobs to the community, and relief to the children.
CURE at UGA was the first collegiate chapter of CURE International, but there are now CURE chapters at UF, Belmont, Cal Poly, USC, and more! We have been graced with the opportunity to provide many surgeries in our first couple of years, and our big brother, CURE International, has noticed! What we are doing this current school year, 2012-2013, will set the precedent for future CURE collegiate chapters all over the country!
We want to give you the opportunity to come be apart of something incredible. Something bigger than yourself. To save a life. To spread the message of Love all over the world.
